Hello, for the past few years i have been insuring our car in myname because i have 10 years no claims but on the insurance comparing sites putting my partner as the main driver, not hiding that she is.
i just spoke to admiral who say we cannot do this the policy needs to be in her name and she can not use my no claims discount ?

Yes - NCDs are not transferrable. She'll need to earn her own discount, she cannot simply take over yours.0

yeah i understand my no claims can not be transferred but i have been insuring the car in my name but not me as the main driver as i have a works vehicle so my partner is a named driver on my policy but stating her as the main driver.
no apparently i have to say its 50/50 use between us but its not and now i have told an insurance company its not 50/50 if we needed to claim i would worry they would worm out of it0 -
In your circumstances they are not transferable.
I managed to take over my husbands because he lost most of his sight and the Coop transferred his NCD over to me when he had sign a form that he was not ever going to drive again.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
That is obviously a policy of Admiral's. There is no reason at all why you cannot do this with other insurers - suggest you speak to a motor broker and explain that the policy and vehicle are yours (I assume vehicle is registered to you) but your OH is the main driver. Policy will then be rated on her.
When DD started driving our insurers offered us two alternatives - policy in OH's name as the car belonged to him and DD shown as main driver and rated on her age. Alternative was for policy to be in DD's name with insurer noting husband as vehicle owner.0 -

No.
The person you spoke to may have misunderstood your circs, or simply didn't know the correct answer.
Do online quotes and with most insurers you will usually be given the opporunity to nominate the main driver from the drivers you want to be covered.0 -
Budget insurance allowed my Husband to transfer his full NCB over to me.
He had always been the policy holder and main driver and I had always been the named driver.
When it became obvious to us that I was infact driving the car more than him we wanted to do the right thing and have the policy reflect the true main driver.
I contacted Budget and explained that I was now the main driver and they said that as long as my Husband was willing to give his consent for me to take over his full NCB then there wasnt a problem with them transferring them.
He spoke to the advisor on the phone for 2 mins and instantly I went from a named driver to the main driver with a full 7 years NCB !
NOT SURE IF ALL INSURERS DO THIS BUT IN OUR CASE IT COULD BE DONE.
OP , give your insurer a call and askThe loopy one has gone :j0 -
The policyholder does not have to be a driver at all, let alone the main driver. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes because it is not transferable0

I was under the impression that the policyholder had to had a insurable interest in the car. Obviously not applicable to the OP but you can't just go and insure anyone's car.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
That is not what was said. The policyholder would be the owner and another person is the driver (main or only). There is no requirement to hold a driving licence to own a vehicle. The policyholder still has an insurablke interest as he owns the car. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
