Changing energy provider in new home
Hi there! Longer time lurker.
So, I've just Moved in to a new flat where the previous provider for the last tenant was edf. I'm looking to make the most of a cashback offer from quidco etc. when Deciding which supplier to go with. I currently have a letter from edf asking to contact them regarding the energy used in the interim period of me taking over the lease and moving in.
My question is. If I want to go with a different supplier should I first sign up with edf then switch, or can I sign up with a different supplier who will notify edf who will then give me a bill for the outstanding amount.
I did a trial run with British gas online and they wanted to know exact details of what plan I am currently on. As I've just moved in I don't know and seeing as to get the cashback I should sign on online I don't want to arrange it over the phone.
Any advice please?
Mike

You enter into a Deemed contract with the current supplier to the property from the day you become the owner or the date a tenancy agreement starts.
Just checkout the EDF tariffs to ensure you get the best rates until you leave hut be wary of any early termination charges.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
As above, you can't switch away from EDF until you have registered for an account with them.
Once that's done, you can commence a switch, which will take 4-5 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
