British Gas in phonathon
Hi I'm new! I've had 4 calls in less than a week from BG. The government (no less) has told them to advise customers of cheapest tarriffs. They find (honestly) that many people are paying more by not switching electricity and gas to a single supplier... um... viz... them!
I tried to switch my electricity some 5 years ago, attracted by BG's £30 off first bill bait. 8 months later, after sending dozens of emails and being told a)they had no record of me b)ooo they did but had sent all details to the wrong address c) sadly, even if they did switch me the £30 off offer had lapsed and they were battling (yeah, right) inevitable price rises. I told them how fervently I wished that the company would go bankrupt. I received their "You'll be switching soon" pre-welcome letter for several years.
I'm alarmed at BG's attempt to imply government sanction of their nasty and bordering on phone harrassment marketing ploys.

First of all, can I offer my apologies for the problems you experienced during the switching process. We aim to make the process as simple and straight-forward as possible. Unfortunately, in some cases we fail to achieve this. However, we are continually looking at ways to improve our customer service and have made significant investment in our systems in recent years to enable this.
Regarding the phone calls, we have provided a commitment to the government that we will offer our customers information on the best tariff, including information on the payment type and other available discount such as the dual fuel discount. We have introduced a comparison table as part of your Annual Statement to provide this information and we have been contacting some customers to discuss the options available to them.
