This is really awful that you daughter has to live in a mouldy tower-block.
There are laws about this. She should send a letter to her landlord pointing out the defects and requesting action be taken. Google shelter for advice.
If nothing happens, contact public health.
Regarding the other minor problem, merely contact the authority who sent the letters and just show them the bank statements. They will sort this out very quickly.
Is this a wind up, do you realise how many famileis with children live in mouldy rat infested disgusting filthy places in the uk.
There are laws, but nothing is done.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I don't think that "mouldy" in this context necessarily means that there's mould there; it's just a descriptive word. like "crummy".
Personally, I think that she's been very lucky to be housed anywhere at her age..0 -

I have given advice to the OP. Please advise her.
The OP's post does not mention "rat-infested" or "disgusting" or "filthy".
I agree absolutely that there are laws. Hence my reference above to Shelter and Public Health.
I have tried to help the OP. Your comments might be better in a discussion forum.
I have no reason to disagree with your views but it would be more helpful to assist the OP rather than make general discussion points instead of dealing with the specific points raised by the OP."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Yes my daughter is very lucky to be housed and yes there is mould that she has to wash off the walls, as the building is concrete and has storage heaters that are too expensive to run but this wasn't the point. Thanks for your advice on this however.
We do not have the same name but did once have the same surname.
Her baby account which was a child's savings account is something she hasn't used as a teenager. she now and has since she was 17 had a totally separate current account with a totally different bank. This is the bank her benefits have been paid into for three years.
No it really doesn't make sense and i was looking for advice as to whether there was a particular body i could go to get this sorted and show that they are not allowed to do this.
I have the letters from the benefits office stating that they have declined my daughters appeal and what they want her to pay up so no my daughter isn't making this up. As she has been claiming for three years I presume they have just decided to persue this due to govt changes??
Thanks:(0 -
.... I presumed they got details from the tax office?? but surely the bank are in breach of DPA?0

But what do the letters say?
I suspect that no one will actually be able to be of much assistance unless they know exactly why it is that the DWP believe your daughter was in possession of £xk, and that online CAB will tell you (or indeed your daughter) to take all the correspondance down to your nearest CAB office so someone can have a look..... I presumed they got details from the tax office?? but surely the bank are in breach of DPA?
