Football ticket undercharged?

My boyfriend and I recently bought season tickets for our local football club on their online system.

The transaction went through and we got a receipt to confirm the transaction and payment (of the advertised price). We then went down to the club a few days later to pick up the season tickets, which are in the form of electronic swipe cards, and all was fine.

About a month later, my boyfriend got a phonecall from the club to say that we had, in fact, only been charged a pound for the season ticket. I wasn't around to speak to the club (the tickets had been bought on my debit card) but they said they would ring back the next day (which they haven't yet done).

I haven't yet checked my back statement yet to see if we really were only charged a pound, but want to prepare for when they eventually ring us back.

If we were undercharged, given that I have a receipt to confirm payment of the tickets, does the club have the right to charge us the difference on the original amount? And if we don't pay, do they have the right to cancel our tickets? Or is it their tough luck given that it was their fault that we got undercharged and we have a receipt of payment?

Many thanks for any help.

  • What does the receipt of payment say? £2 or the price that they thought it should be?

  • The original advertised amount (ie the price they thought it should be)

So the receipt say £y, you have paid £z... therefore you owe them the difference between y and z
  • Yep, if the receipt says one thing but they took another figure then they are entitled to the difference since this is the value you both agreed to.

Had they rung up £2 and charged £2 then this is all you would have needed to pay.

  • Thanks for the quick replies guys. I've never been in this sort of situation before, but I had figured that surely them giving me a receipt (regardless of the amount) and then dispatching the tickets to us would act as their confirmation that they had received full/satisfactory payment of the tickets...?
  • No.

    This is legally what happened:

You offered them the full price for the season tickets; they accepted your offer - contract agreed.

They provided the tickets as their consideration and they are yet to receive yours. You still owe for it unfortunately, if you do not pay then they can refuse you entry until you do.

Have you checked your bank account? - I would have done that first!

Yeah, Check your bank balance ASAP.
If you have only been charged the £1 then you will have to pay the rest i am afraid. Would be nice to have had a get out clause though. lol
