Hi there,
I am new to this site, so I am not sure if i'm posting in the correct place or not. I was just wondering if anyone thought I had a leg to stand on with my PPI claim. I have a credit card with HSBC and am ashamed to say that I didn't realise that I was paying PPI on it - I still am paying it. I've completed the questionnaire and posted it off to HSBC saying that I couldn't have been informed about it as I would have never taken it out and asked them to cancel it, but I was wondering do you think I have any case? Or will they just say I should've checked it? I can't remember when I had the credit card first, but i've definitely had it for the 6 years that I keep hearing mentioned and the balance has been up as high as £8k, so i've definitely paid quite a lot in PPI. I've had my first letter back from HSBC acknowledging receipt of it, but just wondering if anyone else had any any similar experience! I'd be grateful for any feedback! Thanks:)

It is the weakest form of complaint going. It is an unprovable verbal allegation. These usually result in rejection unless there is another identifiable wrong doing or you get lucky and get offered a goodwill payment.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). As dunstonh says, your complaint is weak. However, do be aware that you can cancel the PPI at any time and you don't have to wait for the Bank to consider your complaint before doing so.thisthose33 wrote: »Can anyone help? Thanks in anticipation!0 -
I agree, cancel the PPI as soon as possible, if you dont need it, that is,
But if you have a high balance and you lost your job, how would you pay the cc bill.
I dont understand how you didnt realise you were paying it, it would have been on every single monthy
statement that you got from the CC company as a separate item.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks for such positive and judgemental comments. Luckily the FOS didn't agree and I've just been offered nearly £3k. Glad I didn't listen and give up!0

FOS didnt agree with what? Your complaint as you stated it was very weak. However, we also said that you may succeed if there was another reason that was not identified.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). FOS didn't agree that it was a weak complaint.
Judgemental on how it wasn't understood on how I was still paying.
Just thought others may appreciate that it is worth pursuing!

I doubt very much FOS upheld your complaint on the basis that you gave to the Bank (and us) back in 2012. If you want to encourage others, you should detail exactly why FOS were persuaded to uphold your complaint.
Our comments about your complaint (as you described it) being weak still stand.

I read a lot of FOS outcomes and have never seen any reference in any outcome that states a complaint was weak or strong.
in your case, it was likely that either the firm was encouraged to pay out and not having to pay the FOS fee or another failure was identified. You just have to read the FOS outcomes to know that your comments in post #1 rarely result in success on those particular points. Although plenty go on to succeed on other reasons, some of which the person never complained about or was aware of.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
