Please try to stop worrying (I know, easier said than done)

I'm no expert but I'm sure you should be getting more benefits than you are.

Are the loans/credit cards, solely in your name.

You have come to the right place, there will be lots of people coming along to help, probably after work and tea.

can't help but just want to echo McKneff - people will be along to help later. Try not to worry, a few hours won't make a difference...
Also there are always ways to deal with debt, it can be sorted.

  • thanks skipsmum, just feel so overwhelmed & upset that ive got myself in such a state.... i feel soo stupid & irresponsible...
  • Hi,

First here's a calming reassuring hug.

Now for something more practical and constructive... (I'm no benefits expert so I've focused on the stuff I know about)

Gas and electricity seems quite high (we pay £48 per month total for both). Get on the comparison websites and see if you can't get a better tarrif. Also try to reduce your consumption.

Consider swapping mobile for landline? Might work out cheaper I think but I'm not certain and depends if you're on a contract that you can get out of.

You say ex is paying mortgage at the moment. Do you plan to try to take this on or are you selling? Could you move maybe into rented/housing association?
    MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.
  • Try and post your SOA on to the debt free wannabe forum, you will most likely get lots of replies a little quicker maybe.

    Here is the forum:

Try and keep calm, you will find LOTS of support here.

Can you increase your hours at work at all. (If you work, that is.

A water meter could be cheaper for you.
Ask the council if you can pay your council tax over 12 months instead of 10

Also, you should be applying for a 25% reduction as a single adult.

Anyway you can install a lodger to get some extra cash.

Can you get the other half to contribute more (is there no chance of a reconciliation)

Give the DWP a ring to see if you are receiving all the benefits you are entitled to.

    How old are the children.
Sorry, not being nosy, but if other people come along to help, the more information, the better.

Things will get sorted, smile when the kids come home, you'll only make them miserable too.;)

    Regards
    Annie

IS the £495 income from benefits or a wage?

If it's a wage, you could claim Tax credits as long as you are working more than 16 hours a week?

Hi 7171blondie and welcome to the BR board. First step is to take a deep breath and second step and the most important one is to contact one of the following debt charities. Please try these they don't charge and are impartial. They will go through all your options with you and if they suggest bankruptcy then come back to this board and we will help you all we can. Also if your not ‘clicking’ with one of the Debt charities do try another. We advise you to try at least two others for your own piece of mind. Your BR could be refused if you have not sought advice.
