Peanuts are not actually nuts, they're legumes (from the pea family) ;) You might want to try almonds, brazil nuts (one nut contains enough selenium to satisfy daily requirement) hazelnuts, macadamia nuts. All extremely healthy and packed full micronutrients :)

Have you got any Asian grocers nearby? I find they're a much cheaper source for bags of nuts, pulses, spices etc than the supermarket. Or even try online. Never fails to amaze me the range of stuff you can buy from Amazon these days! I buy all my nut butters and coconut oils there lol

Ahh, but I love peanuts! lol Almonds are in there too, but I will try the others you've suggested too. I have been finding it extremely difficult to find nuts that are 'untouched' here in NL. The only place I good find almonds that weren't roasted, salted or sugar coated, for example, was the organic market. Which sells lovely stuff, but is more expensive as you might imagine.

Asian...no, I don't think so. There is a Turkish one near us, but again, all the nuts were spoiled in one way or another. But they do have cheaper bags of lentils, spices etc.

I'm gonna check out a health food store in the high street at the weekend, see what I can find.

Ohhh I didn't realise you were in NL, my apologies. Have you checked Amazon then? I wonder whether they have the same diversity of stock as here in the UK.

And yes, you really want unadulterated nuts, no good having them salted, sugared & dry roasted ;)

Hey, most of us have been there, done that so fully understand the struggles involved. Some of us are also qualified/educated in the subject and more than willing to pass on our knowledge and ideas :D

No, I haven't checked Amazon yet, but I will! :D

I must be able to get them somewhere, but my colleagues just don't get it. They think nuts, even when covered in other stuff, are healthy regardless! Very frustrating.

    Ain't that the truth!

The more I learn, the more fascinated I become. I totally missed my calling! Have started a blog documenting my journey from couch potato, junk food junkie to a healthy, active woman full of vitality, but I haven't shared it yet. Too nervous, and still want a few more posts on there before sharing. Besides, it's more of a tool for me to recognise my weaknesses, and be able to see how far I've come.

But am seriously considering some training/education in this area now.

Wish we didn't have to eat at all. I bought quinoa and bulgar wheat yesterday to try to eat better food, i made chicken last night with brown rice, rice was fine (added veg to both rice and chicken) but the chicken was gross. I'ved tried having brown rice cooked with vegetables over the weekend but still starving after eating.

    That's because you didn't have any protein/fat.

I tried going to the gym a year ago but found i got even more hungry and had to eat loads more food. So stopped going.

Of course, if you spend more energy and you're reliant on glucose for energy you need to eat to restore the glucose. If you're using your fat stores you don't.

Everything i like has sugar in it, Onken Biopot yoghurts for example and the Nature Valley bars.

In nature sweet=safe. But nature doesn't naturally provide us with an overabundance of sweet all the time, and most of our fruit has been bred to be larger and sweeter than occurs naturally.

I'm 22 and was 13 stone 9 until I joined weight watchers 2 weeks ago!
I'm one of those people that just enjoy food! ... the wrong food :)

I lost 4lbs on my first week and 4.5lbs on my second so I think i'm doing well so far. I do zumba once a week and i'm looking into buying the DVD 30 days to shred (or something along those lines as its called).

I'm not hungry at all on weight watchers!

    Great post :T

Just to pick up on you adding cocoa to your coffee. This is an excellent way of eliminating your cravings for carbs and avoiding insulin spikes. Try having the cocoa without the coffee but with cinnamon added to it instead as this will help regulate your blood glucose levels even further :)

I love cocoa and cinnamon as well but I find it sweeter as a taste and I was really trying to give an example that others could relate to as lots of people find coffee or cocoa alone too bitter without sugar, let alone both together!
