JSA and holidays

Hi there
Posted here before and got some excellent advice so I thought I'd give it a shot again. I recently got a tax refund for a reasonable amount and thought I'd use it towards a week holiday to Turkey. I am signing on for JSA and I have already taken just over 1 week's holiday in the UK which was all booked and paid for before I started signing on.
So just a couple of wee questions:
Firstly with this holiday it will take me over the 14 day limit. Does this mean I will have to sign off and do a rapid reclaim on my return?
What proof do they ask for for foreign holidays? When I had my trip in the UK I just had to fill in a form, will they ask to see my itinerary or e-ticket receipt?
Will they cross-question me about where I got the money from? (looking at all these deprivation of capital post, tho still under the savings limit)
Will they want to see more copies of my bank statement to see that I can afford it or where I got the money from or anything like that?
Also how much notice do I have to give them? I will actually be signing on on the morning I go away on holiday. Can I do it then or should I do it on the previous signing?
And finally. If I get an interview arranged for the time I am away, surely they won't expect me to return to the UK for the interview like they do if you have a UK holiday?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The quick answer is you will need to sign off , claiming up to the day before you go away. Then make a rapid re-claim when you get back.

There is no such thing as a 14 day limit either.

Just do as joebolton says and none of your questions are relevant.

    Have a good time ................
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • You won't be claiming JSA while you are away so they can't insist you attend any interviews during that period.

Nor should they have to be paying her any money if she isn't looking for a job either ;)

They wont be paying any money, because she will have signed off before she went away.

OP, dont forget to do a rapid reclaim when you get back.

Obviously I know that that's why it is called JOBSEEKERS ALLOWANCE (does exactly what it says on the tin!).

When I filled out my last form I was told that you are allowed 14 days holiday (that doesn't mean paid!!!) just thought that meant that you didn't have to go throughthe rapid reclaim process.

The 14 days "holiday" on JSA -- a total of 14 days in 12 months -- applies to travel within the UK. You can be paid JSA, but must be able to return for an interview if necessary. You have to fill in a holiday form.

I'm afraid you'll have to go through rapid reclaim.

My post was one sentence long. The first part of it said ... "You won't be claiming JSA while you are away" No claim = no money. The OP has already been told they will have to end their claim and do a rapid reclaim after the holiday.

(I, too, am somewhat unsure that this was the wisest thing to spend a tax rebate on, in the OP's circumstances, but what do I know! ;) )

Its the OP's money to spend on whatever they like.
Why shouldnt they have a holiday, perhaps they are not planning on staying on benefits.

Some people would just sign on the morning you go and not tell them your away for a week.
Im not suggesting the OP does that as it would be wrong to do such a thing....
Im just saying that Some people would do it.
