Redundancy notice period

On Monday August 6 I was given a letter informing me that I am to be made redundant as of August 18. I have been employed with the company since May 2009; am I correct in thinking that the redundancy notice is far too short?

What is in your contract. In the absence of a contract it is:-

Statutory minimum is 1 week's notice for each full year worked.

Redundancy pay is also 1 weeks pay for each full year worked. (up to the age of 41, after that it is 1.5 weeks

You should also receive any accrued holiday pay.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

So I should have been given a minimum of three weeks notice (my contract states that standard redundancy terms will apply). Any suggestions as to what course of action I should take. We don't have a union. Thanks.

If they gave you notice on the Monday 6th aug with 3 years service.
they need to pay notice pay up to(inc) 27th Aug if they terminate before they need to PILON for any outstanding notice

Statutory redundancy is 3 weeks pay capped at £430pw(adjusted for age <22,>41)

Holidays accrue upto the day of termination allthough some employers might accrue for full notice if asked(ie claim them anyway and hope they don't know the rules).

Thank you for your help. It should prove very useful :-)
  • Hi amiga1

If you need further redundancy information you should go to direct.gov.uk, under the employement heading it has a redundancy section which has all your rights.

    Good Luck

There is a statutory redundancy procedure. Have the employers followed it? Were you consulted about the need for redundancies? Was there a transparent selection process?
