In any case, i think this litter is too soon. Think about it for six months research the breed and breeders, research altetnatives, see how you are placed in spring.

All of this says don'tbuy another puppy yet.

Sometimes being an animal lover, rather than satisfying ourselves, means NOT taking in anymore.

    Totally agree.

And I don't mean to offend you but you appear to be in a volatile relationship and moving house to be with a man who has in the past landed you in hospital, you have no means of supporting yourself or your animals and you want to get another one?!

Just an aside, would it kill you to use a fullstop every now and then? Your posts are really difficult to read!
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Sorry but I have a dog (large dog) and 4 cats, work full time and I struggle so can not imagine someone not working and keeping so many pets - for whatever reason.

I have 6 dogs and work full time and I manage jsut fine. To be fair they are all ankle snappers and one of them thinks that any walk longer than 10 minutes is a form of abuse!:o And I do take them into work with me, so it does make life easier than for many people.

I do agree with kylyr that they as a spitz type, they are likely to be independent and stubborn, it's built into spitz personality. You mentioned keeping the house warm and chows won't be lovers of hot homes. My OH is ill at the moment and feels cold all the time ( central heating is on all day while I'm out:eek:) and my spitz are really not happy even with fans blowing.

Personally I don't think a chow is the ideal breed for your circumstances.

Can I ask if your partner has a lot of sensory issues (i.e touch, smells etc)?
Reason I ask is my son has Autism and when we were considering which breed to get there are a whole lot of issues as well as the barking to consider..

My son has severe sensory issues so we could not have a licky, bouncy or a yappy dog (this rules out quite a majority of breeds!)
He doesn't like long haired breeds as he hates hairy stuff..we also have issues with him spontaneously 'squeaking' and bursting into song so a skittish dog was out of the question..

Research, read, meet different breeds on your shortlist in person, to get some idea of how they would react to your partner and vice versa.

We have a shar pei and they are soooo not a dog for everyone but she is perfect for us,very similar in a lot of aspects to the Chow, but you have to know just what sort of dog you are taking on with these breeds, they can be moneypit dogs too so please be aware of that also.
  • hi he cant stand smells if a cat goes to the litter tray i have to do it as he is nearly sick and has to go outside, wereas to me i can hardly smell anything, he cant stand anyone to touch him that goes for me to even if you brush past him it makes him shudder, we have a chinese crested and she is more like a cat never barked since i had her, and spends most of her time when i am not walking her sleeping on the bed or in the bed and she suits us fine, can i ask why a shar pei suits you and why a money pit do you mean health issues ? x
