Change of Flight dates. Am I !!!!!!ed?

Hi

I was due to fly out with 4 others members of the family to California for a wedding flying into LAX and booked the tickets through Opodo. The flights going outward was with KLM and return was with Air France.

There had to be a change to the wedding date for personal reasons and it will now be in July 2013 but we already booked the tickets.

Looking at the Opodo site it seems I will have to pay approx £125 per ticket to make a change and this is without the extra fee that could be by travelling next year.

I know it could be a long shot but is there anything I could do to reduce it? I know this is 100% our problem and not Opodo.

I was hoping they may be able to provide me with a credit note and then I rebook later in the time, would they do this? Am I likely to get a better deal if I call KLM or AF directly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

FYI I am due to fly out in October 2012.

Thanks

I'd go on the original flights, have a fantastic holiday and not bother going to the wedding next year!

I don't know what the personal reasons for changing the wedding dates are but if it was my wedding and I'd done that to guests there is no way I'd expect them to fork out more money to get there next year when I'd changed the dates at such short notice.

If you don't mind wasting a bit of time and the cost of a phonecall you can try but almost for sure they will refer you back to Opodo.

Whether you can get a credit notice (essentially a refund) depends on the terms and conditions of your ticket. If you bought the cheapest ticket possible my guess is that it's unlikely. I assume you have checked that the tickets even allow for changes? If not, that's the first thing I'd do. If you can get away with paying a £125 change fee + the difference in fare that's pretty good IMO.

I wish it was that easy.... Family politics hey!!

Well we agreed we will change them once now even though we will have to fork out! At least we not staying in a hotel it would have been much worse!!

Deduct the £125 from your wedding gift fund and explain you couldn't afford a nice gift as you had to pay so much to change your ticket.

as has been said, being able to change the tickets all be it for a fee is pretty much more than you would get from a lot of airlines who would leave you with nothing but refunding the APD less any admin fee unless you had specifically bought a flexible ticket

    £125

I usually just buy them a £4 Tesco Toaster!!!!!
  • see how much they'll deduct for cancelling, as you may be able to get a better deal on the flights as the new ones will be so far in advance

If you booked cheap flights, then a £125 change fee is a good deal. Change the flights and enjoy the holiday / wedding next year!
