ESA Help

Just wondering if anyone can clarify this for me please. Ive just started a claim for ESA, i know the first 13 weeks the rate is £56.25 but do get the disabilty premium of £30.35 during this period too if you meet the criteria (I get high rate mob and low care dla) or is it just the standard £56.25 for the first 13 weeks.

thankyou

The disability premium isn't payable with ESA.

Esa is a completely separate benefit from dla. You are on assessment rate of esa for the first 13 weeks, during which you are supposed to receive form esa50, to complete, ( i didn't.) Then you will go for a medical to assess your capability to work. The process is long, drawn out and stressful. I didn't receive my esa award and payment until 3, maybe 4 months into my claim, also leaving me with no entitlement to housing benefit or council tax benefit, and therefore leaving me with not enough income to even cover my rent, let alone anything else, on a weekly basis. Hopefully you are already receiving hb and ctb if you are already receiving dla? Good luck.:)

There is a disability premium paid alongside esa if you are claiming dla. Not sure if its payable during the assessment phase or not. Maybe check the disability and dosh board, they have loads of info x

There is a disability premium paid after the 13 weeks assessment phase. I didn't know about the disability premium paid alongside esa. Do you have more information, please?

Yes, there is the Enhanced Disability Premium, but it is not the Disability Premium the OP asked about, and they don't qualify for it as
they are not receiving DLA high rate care or in the Support Group.

Now you have confused me. I am in the support group and therefore receive esa at a higher rate, which is what the op was asking with regard to their question re the disability premium?

You are suggesting there is also an enhanced disability premium, aside from what i am talking about? Please expand.

Edit - Just read the link. Looks like yet another phone call re esa.

There is a Disability Premium that is paid with a number of benefits such as IS, but is not payable with ESA.

There is an Enhanced Disability Premium paid with income Related ESA if you are in the SG or are receiving the higher rate of DLA care.
