Cashplus Euro card

I recently obtained a Cash Plus pre-paid card for the purpose of obtaining one of their free Euro travel money cards.

Everything about this Euro card looks attractive, especially the free ATM withdrawals and I was initially very impressed with cashplus and their services.

That is until I actually tried to load the card with some Euros at Money Shop in Woolwich.

The Cash Plus information leaflet which accompanies the card states
(quote)
Just visit any Money Shop store, hand over your Cashplus Euro Card and the euros you want to load or exchange Pounds into Euros at the counter.
(unquote)

Clear enough to me but not to the Money Shop staff. They refused to load the Euros I handed to them as I had not exchanged my money in their shop.

I showed them the leaflet. They refused to accept what was written in the leaflet. The staff member consulted the manager. Finally I got to see the Manager and was informed that he doesn't care what it says in the leaflet; he will not load Euros onto the card unless they are obtained by changing pounds in their shop at their rate of exchange.

Was so annoyed at their attitude destroyed the free card in front of them.

    What a palaver!
Once you have your Cashplus Euro or US Dollar card(s), loading currency is simple. You can load in two easy ways:
Online through the Members' Area from anywhere in the world with internet access
Take your Sterling to any of over 300 Money Shop stores throughout the UK, where they’ll exchange your money and load it to your currency card account for you

You could have just got a decent card in the first place, such as the Caxton Euro card or the Cash Passport Globe, instead of wasting time with a very average card and getting it so badly wrong.

I second Nifty. I use Caxton myself, I travel regularly to Portugal and find this card very easy to use. I find it very easy to load over the internet without any fee, no ATM withdrawal fee and a competitive exchange rate. I have been using it for over 4 years and no problems.

I have got nothing wrong thanks.

What you have written is NOT what is says in the leaflet. The leaflet says exactly what I wrote.

Well maybe they chose wrong words for the leaflet, you have to pay in pounds first. And are you sure it's free to withdraw cash from atm? I don't think so...

It must have been really funny to watch you destroying that card, what a customer, hey...:D

Yes it is free to withdraw cash from a Euro ATM. Thats one reason I was interested; sick of paying debit card foriegn currency ATM cash withdrawal fees.

How much use I would have made of the card would have depended on the exchange rate when loading it.

They may well have chosen the wrong words for the leaflet; in fact I suspect they did. But that's not the point. The leaflet says exactly what I said it says and is therefore both misleading and false.

But misleading leaflets aside I would have been quite happy with the facilities the card offered subject to, of course, acceptable exchange rates. Except that, initially, I wanted to load the card with Euros I already have and the leaflet caused me to believe that was possible.

As for why I got annoyed and destroyed the card ... shall we just say that the Money Shop staff could do with some customer service training and leave it at that.

Just take a picture of it, upload it here, click on the 'mountain with a postage stamp' icon supplied when posting and paste the Direct Link in the space provided.

    It's (mostly)all here: http://www.mycashplus.co.uk/cashplus-extras/currency.aspx

Found an old thread where it shows that the exchange rate offered was a very poor 3.5% below Mastercard rates.
