Santander bank student account 2012/2013: We want your feedback

I applied yesterday and this morning got an automatic rejection. They say to check experian. Personally I think they tell you to check it so that they've sold you a product. I'm not checking it because I'm not paying for it right now.
At least the rejection was quick enough. I think it has to do with my file not being updated regarding my electoral role status at my new address at home, even though I'm registered at my student/current address.
And I read somewhere that Santander consider the end of each student year on the 31st of July and I'm still a first year because I started in January this year. So technically to them I should be a 2nd year. I'm not.
Anyway, I'm waiting for the Co-Op to get back to me. Hopefully they do, I read it's a nightmare.0 -
My daughter went into our local Santander Branch today to open a student 123 account as she has an unconditional acceptance for this year. Why do university students under 18 not have the same right to a student account as those over 18? She was told she couldn't open this account, despite having a Santander 16-18 account which she has managed very well since she opened it.0

My daughter applied for a 123 Student account on 13.07.15 and has been a Abbey National/Santander account holder since 1999. Despite getting an acknowledgement reference and sending several emails via the online account secure messages Santander will not respond. I called them today and, even though the automated system told me how much she had in her account, when I got through to an "advisor" they would not even confirm or deny that they were dealing with the application or not due to "Data Protection" reasons. How much is in her bank is not subject to Data Protection but whether they have received an application or emails are !!!!!!! Idiots !!!!! I am a personal and business customer and my partner has 4 in credit accounts with Santander and we are heading for the door !! Suggest NOBODY ever goes near the idiots at Santander.0

Can anyone recommend a student bank account for her. She will be in credit so does not need an OD except maybe an emergency £250 ish. She is 19 and starting a 3 year BA Hons degree. She will pay in £8500 per year and has 4 figure savings. She presently has a Santander current account and a Nat West Cash card account. Cant believe I have to ask these questions and would have hoped banks would be eager to get young professionals but obviously not.0

Ask NatWest if they can upgrade her account to a student one with an overdraft of £250. Should be easy enough. They'll get it done in days.0 -

I can't see what they have done wrong, of course they are not going to talk about your daughters account, why did you think they would? To have heard the balance then you would have needed to provide security details, if your daughter has told you these then she has broken the terms and conditions of her account.
Santander are probably quite pleased to get rid of you if this is how you behave, although don't expect any other bank to act differently in this situation.0 -
Hi, my son is 18 and already has an account with Santander, however when he applied for a Student Account over the phone he was declined, we can not understand why.
Although his credit rating is low, (but what student has a high rating). There are no loans, bad debts, the only searches are for his car insurance.
The only thing I can think of, is when asked his income he only gave his part time Saturday job, should he have give this Student Loan, Grant and Job income?
Any help suggestions would be appreciated.0 -

Don't sweat it... If they don't want his business for his student account go elsewhere. When I applied for my first student account, Lloyds TSB declined it but HSBC said yes 20 minutes later.
The same as this year too... Santander and the Co-Op said no but Natwest said yes despite my £500 odd default. Santander did not even check my Experian, despite writing a letter to say I should check it. But the Co-Op did check it.
Remember you are the customer not the other way around, if they don't want his custom there is a bank that will want it. Frig them init.0 -
I got declined for a student account.
I'm quite surprised as I'm 33 and earning around 3k a month at the moment (I'm a contractor so I'm self employed in HMRCs eyes). The only negative mark on my credit file is a missed credit card payment from 3-4 years ago.
I think it might be down to the fact that I've opened four current accounts within the last six months as I've been taking advantage of the high interest rates on current accounts. I also have two credit cards. However, they're paid off in full every month with the exception of the late payment referenced above.0 -
Went into the local branch on Monday to transfer DDs 123 mini account to the student account. This application was declined with a 'low BS'. The advisor had no idea what this meant and couldn't understand why she had been declined. She rang yesterday to say that, rather than transfer, she had made an application to open a new account. This went through without any problems.0
