i dont pay much more for a whole car than you have for just a part..

so in a nutshell
someone else comes on says its ok to drive your car with light on and it wont go into limp mode and strand you somewhere or break down irretrievably because lets be honest here its only a light
Yes it's just a light that tells you one of the readings it's got from it's sensors is out of tolerance. It does not mean you have to rush to a garage and be ripped off.
If it does go into limp home mode you will not be stranded somewhere, the clue is in the name Limp Home the ecu will switch everything to default values and limit the rpm but it will get you home.
If you had read what I put you would see I also told the OP to get on the owners forum for advice, EGR valves and throttle sensors are common faults with the 1.9 engine ( I know because I have the same engine in my car ) and they will get much better advice there than on here because it will be from people that have been there done it and got the tea shirt.0 -
if you cant afford it you cant afford it. offset the fuel price of the car into the price of taxi back and forth work, and stand the car in the drive untill you can afford to fix it.
this is where the computer says its this scenario and the mechanic follows it being the most likely but what should have happened was the volt meter should have come out and tested it, then onto the next thing in the same wiring curcuit if nothing out the ordinary came to light.
your going to dig yourself in deeper debt for the sake of less than £300!!
put the car on the drive and pay off the mechanic for his job uptill now, if you cant pay a bean now, uh oh he can keep you car in lieu of payment dont pay it off he can legally sell it on to get paid, and any amount over the costs of work he had done, he has to give to you.0
