Interviews are numbers games, like dating, like looking for a property to buy etc etc. One day you will get the job, the nice girlfriend / boyfriend, nice house etc, till then keep looking. Do you go on a date with someone you know it won't work out with, then afterwards say "gee can I have some feedback".. no because you probably won't like what you hear. Do you view a house you don't like and then give feedback? No because your opinion is not the same as the vendor. They like the magnolia wallpaper, you don't.

Same with interviews. Imagine you are a busy line manager who is interviewing people for some role, what benefit do you and your organisation get by giving feedback after interview? At worst you get an earful and threats of being sued for slander by some goof, at best you get... nothing?

If you're perceptive you yourself can tell if your interviewer is liking you and if you've a chance at the job. If they want you for the job they will be all over you like a rash. Interviewers don't and won't be honest with feedback so what benefit is it to you the confused job hunter? Like I said it's a numbers game, 10 interviews and no job, you know something wrong with your technique.

My OH had a couple of interviews with a very large company and with another 4 people, spent a day at an assessment centre. This was about 4 weeks ago, he's made two enquiries to try to find out if he was successsful, has been told 'someone will get back to you' and..........................nothing.

It's dreadful, it's not like there's loads of people to notify, there's 5 of them, he now says he wouldn't work for them now even if they offered. He has actually secured employment at another company so can afford to have that attitude but I have sympathy for people who don't have a job and don't get told anything and are just left up in the air.

How long do people leave it before accepting they've not been successful at interview?

I think that it's appalling that companies do not get back to you and not to have the courtesy of a simple Thanks but no Thanks reply. I always made sure at the end of the interview that my priority question would be "When can I hear back from you with a decision?" Then I would give it about 2-3 days afterwards and assume that I did not get the job.

Also a message for interviewers, How would you like it if I accepted a job offer with your company to start in a months time and then I was offered another role and did not turn up on my start day and never had the decency to tell you. You wouldn't be best please now would you?:p

I was very interested to see this thread. My son was briefly unemployed & contacted loads of recruitment agencies as well as applying for countless jobs himself. He was contacted by a well known agency regarding a position for an assistant manager position at Halfords which they wanted to fill as soon as possible. In order for them to put his name forward for the job he had to provide a SWOT analysis to the agency. He spent many hours doing this, was told it was excellent & was then told to attend an interview 45 miles away. He had very good feedback & was then asked to attend a further interview nearer home. This also went well, & was asked if he could spend half a day in our local store meeting the manager & to get a feel of the job. He attended, again had excellent feedback & was told by the agency that he should hear back within the week. He chased up every couple of days but was unable to get an answer whether he'd been successful. Halfords did not have the decency to at least let him know either way! This was 4 months ago!!!!! He's since secured a job with a company who seem to have better values, but I feel very bitter that he was messed around like that. Very poor show Halfords :mad::mad:

First time I've encountered this before, but I too had a non responder after an interview. Two weeks after the interview, and heard nothing back. From a local authority I'm rather disgusted with their complete lack of decency. Every other interview I went to with LAs they gave quick notification of whether you got the job, and also gave feedback on the interview, but this lot didn't even give a phonecall or email.

I'm shocked there are employers who don't even bother to contact after an interview.

Are you sure they've finished interviewing and selected a candidate? It's not unheard of for LAs to take more than a fortnight, particularly if someone wasn't available for interview when the others were.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
