Might have missed this but have you looked at whether you have any missold PPI I know the adverts and phone calls get annoying but I have had over £20,000 back and was oblivious to the fact I'd paid all that over the years and in fact tesco finance have just written to me about a loan I'd forgotten I'd even had and so thats another claim now going through0

TBH I love it, but it is very addictive so I probably need to get rid anyway before my thumbs fall off & my neck ache gets worse, lol
If its the smartphone technology you love there are plenty of secondhand smartphones you can buy, would reccomend an android phone and don't be suckered into a mini version, they
I can't afford an iphone my OH has one now but I actually prefer mine and its cheaper!0 -
Hello
been a while since I've been on, but we have not been sticking to our budget so I need to get back on here every couple of days to get us back on track. We've all been poorly, DH still isn't working & we've just lost track of our spending the last 3 weeks
Good things we have done:
Sold DH's car & broke even on the finance so no issue there
Cancelled everything we said we would, except lovefilm which we need to do this month
But really need to get on top of grocery shopping spend, last week I bought a slow cooker off amazon so am ready to start making meals with leftovers to freeze

If your DH is still not finding work, now is the time to get round everywhere that takes on Christmas staff - try the local sorting office (can get pretty good hourly rate for working nights/weekends), shops etc. It might not be what he wants to do or is trained to do, but even a few weeks work is better than nothing. I worked in the local sorting office last Christmas as I'd been made redundant, and apart from anything else I loved working again!
Now, a bit of tough love - you have managed to break even financially so far probably only because you sold the car - to manage that again you have GOT to get your spending under control as a whole family. As DH hasn't got a job yet, agree with him what money making/saving activities he will do each week - whether it's listing things on Ebay, walking round different supermarkets to get the best deal on individual items, scouring charity shops for essential items for the kids etc.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

I totally agree BUT dh doesnt, if i was off i'd LOVE to be scouring for bargains & making up receipes etc. it is so tough at the mo as he's not pulling his weight round the house
and it is getting me down. We could be using this time to really get stuck into our debts & also jobs like gardening etc. but he just doesnt want to. I know he's down about not having a job but i don't know how to make him do anything? Back after paying off DMP in 2014

Hi Icklepiggle,
I have been looking through your posts and I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
Reading about your OH, I suspect that there is more at play here than just him not having his LBM. It sounds as though he is avoiding most things. Do you think he could be suffering from depression? When I was out of work after I graduated, I had a really hard time motivating myself to do anything at all, even going to the shop for milk felt like an insumountable task.
It could be worth trying to persuade him to see his GP.
Lots of loveLBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -

Hi Icklepiggle
Good news that your OH has got some work, while he is doing that he can be searching for something he would rather do, but at least it takes the pressure off for the moment.
Stick around though, as like me, with 17k of debt, if i don't log onto here every day or so I lose track and end up giving up and slipping into more debt.
I will subscribe to your thread and see how you get on.
