Help - good family resort in Europe?

As we usually take british holidays - have no idea where in europe is good for a family holiday.....we did florida last year which was amazing, but funds don't stretch to going again.:(

Any recommendations on a good resort with nice beach plus lots of attractions to visit, eg zoo's, water parks, forests, lakes etc..as not ones to sitting around - open to visiting any country, but feedback on where you have enjoyed your holiday and accomodation would be appreciated....as don't know where to start!

Salou, Costa Dorada, Spain may be worth a look, lot's to do localy, nice beaches, bars and shops. Aquoplois Water Park and PortAventura 3km from resort, Tarragona if you want some Roman stuff, regular buses to Barcelona (60km) for the Zoo, Aquarium and some culture.
