Free City Council Skip...?

Hello all, hope this is the right section for my question!
I've heard though the vine that you can get a free skip delivered and then taken away free from the city council once a year but have so far drawn a blank trying to find anymore information on it other than that  . Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've been meaning to get rid of a few large items for a while (Anything I could reuse, recycle or give away/ebay has already gone but still leaves a large amount of 'rubbish').
Thanks in advance

News to me > which Council?0

Sounds like an old wives tale to me. Some councils will collect a limited number of large items which are difficult to get to the local tip/refuse centre (like a fridge or sofa for example) for free, whilst others will charge to for the service.0

Most councils will collect large items 2/3 times a year but I've never heard of a free skip.0

All Councils do this from what I've been told, it's to cut down on fly tipping and you don't even need to be a council tenant.~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0

Hmmm, have to have a dig about and see. Anythings better than nothing~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
as said most councils will collect a certain number of items free each year.
however, the OP is correct in some extent. Some councils do offer "community skips". These are skips left for a short period for the community to use to dispose of items; maybe to discourage fly tipping etc.
I have seen this operate in Hoxton.
Maybe if you contact your local councillors they can help you arrange a community skip if there is sufficient need."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
Certain councils do operate this skip scheme, but it is not just for one user, it will be a communal skip, most likely once a year.
My OH's mum organised one through Liverpool council last year. It is placed at the end of the road for all households to use.
You have to be quick though as it fills up quickly, some people hog it and fill it befre other users.
Alternatively they also use ' Bulky Bobs' in which you contact them to arrange pick up of large items ( max 5 items a year, 3 piece counts as 1 item )0 -
Our council used to do a communal skip, wasn't even as often as once a year though. We do however get 2 uplifts a year, on the condition that you name everything you need uplifted. Best place to check would be your council's website.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

This is the kind of thing you would hear from 'a bloke in the pub'Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Might be best to ask whoever told you.
Or contact the council?0
