Sliding Folding Doors, instead of patio doors...

Hi All!

Been looking at these, for the new place we've not found yet!!

Anyone bought them, or installs them?

They do seem to be a great idea for bringing the garden, into the house & look really cool!!

But they do seem to have lots of parts & bits that might fail, or at least need maintaining!

& who makes the best quality & value for money ones, please!

I have had both french and sliding doors. Pros and cons on both. Be careful about security with sliding doors.

I would recomend Bon Accord Glass - a local supplier. I used .......... (one of the large nationwide suppliers) and would not recommend them. I suppose and you get what you pay for.

Slide fold doors can be expensive. The best I have found so far are by ID Systems..But they are quite expensive, you can find a lot cheaper but the difference is you can not create a flush threshold and a lot of them will not guarantee outward opening.

So, it depends what you want, if you are not bothered about them opening inwards or having a flush threshold, then there are quite a few other suppliers out there.

ID doors are pretty WOW but not cheap. We want these in our house once we have the kitchen dining room done but still trying to find an architect.

A friend of ours has had these installed and they look great and she was most impressed with the installation and service. But all this does come at a price.

Not sure what the cheaper alternative is at the moment. I am looking into this and will let you know as soon as we know what we are going to do. Can't afford ID doors unfortunately. Not unless we win the lotto on Weds!!!

Mine don't slide but they fold in half and then fold back flat against the wall - so you have a huge "gap" that opens out to the garden. No mechanism to go wrong - just parliament hinges.

In wood, though. I had them made by a local joiner and they were not cheap!

Hi all.

Im new to this forum but have been reading for some time and found lots of good advise. I just had large set of sliding doors fitted and if you search you can find a few smaller companies fitting the same high quality doors but a little cheaper.

From a lot of internet research i decided on Sunflex doors, really impressed with the quality, i used SKG (london) and would recommend them to anyone. Gave me good advise and great service, fitted on schedule and so far had no problems with the doors.

Have to agree with ann marie have visited two of Sunflex's main competitors trying to save money, afraid they just were not in it and at 13 grand for three doors I was so hoping they were!
