Travelling short journey - kind of.
Hi.
I've read the split ticketing rail article and understand that travelling short is where you buy a ticket from A to F and get off at E and that it's technically not allowed under the rail companies T and C's.
In my case I want to buy a rail ticket from A to F, but I want to get on at stop B (as that's where I live). Does anyone know if this is allowed and/or has anyone had any problems with this in the past. The only other way I can do it is to buy and extra single from B to A only to come back past the way I came which seems stupid as it also adds another 1 hour + to my journey.
Thanks.

Whether travelling short or boarding late is allowed or not depends entirely on what sort of ticket you buy
Advance tickets not allowed. (and that's a ticket type, not a description of when you buy it.)
Anytime tickets - always allowed
off peak tickets - varies. Always allowed on the second leg of a return ticket, varies on a case by case basis outward
To get a more definite answer if it's not an advance ticket you are buying you'd have to state the journey(s)0 -
I'm not sure, as "advance" and "standard ticket" is showing up on the internet search at the same price for the same journey.
Will one of those be printed on my ticket? As I'm off to the station to pick it up from a fast ticket machine soon.0 -
Standard isn't a ticket type - it's the class of travel - first or standard
They will both be on your ticket0 -
To expand on that a bit - you are not being shown two different tickets at the same price - you are being shown the same ticket twice. At the top of the list it is showing you the cheapest standard class ticket for that journey - all possible tickets are listed below so it's shown again.
It's intended to be a helpful feature but it does confuse some.0
