    Horses for courses I suppose.
If we bothered to drive that far again we would try Orlean and Le Mans.

    I'd agree with you there.

Orleans is nice, I found Le Mans to be a dump though. Its like any city, you need to live there you get to know the best places to go. There was a small lake (more like a big pond) where we could easily just spend the day. No tourist could find it as it was up a farm track. You get to know the good bars, and the ones that were good and cheap and are now just horrid ones catering for tourists.
I think because Tours is a major University city, and there was a good social scene, may have helped.

Many thanks everyone, keep them coming.

We had 2 weeks with no kids.

Have pinpointed suggestions and if the weather turns out not so great as we are in a motorhome we can try and drive on to catch the sun within reason , so if there is somewhere a bit further on you loved please alao suggest it.

Have done Le Mans a few times for the 24 so will give it a miss this time.

Also as we have a big motorhome we wont want to be driving into big cities but hope to find campsites that will allow us to cycle to the sites.

Ps my son did Puy Du Fou on his school exchange and loved it, we will be going again next year with our 3 kids and want to do it all together.

Amboise is lovely, not the most spectacular chateau but a beautiful location.

Chenonceau is a do-not-miss in my opinion.
