To encourage others, I sent a letter adding I would contact my credit card company. Which put the wind up him. Left it with my step dad to keep it emotive and am getting a cheque for half. :-)The will to save every money saving penny we can0

That sounds like a good (and fair) result. The seller should really have spotted if one of his stock was overheating to that extent, and you couldn't be expected to until you'd driven it (thereby doing the other damage).
If the dealer had been knowingly passing a faulty car then it's cost him more than doing the original repair would have which might make him think twice next time, if it was an innocent oversight then he's gone a good way to correcting it.
If only all problems could be sorted that easily!0 -

Buyer of car droven it 20 miles.
Now as you probably know a thermostat can stick open or shut as its only a lump of wax in a cylinder with a valve.
Its unfair to blame the dealer at all and they were unaware there was a problem till buyer told them,
they didnt have to give any money back seeing as car gone elsewhere but as a goodwill gesture they are going to pay half .
Its what i would do too but customer would have got a lecture off me for not advising of cost sooner
and just to add dealer offered money back if car flubbered in the opening post0
