Cash On Collection Puzzler!

Sold a Cash On Collection item on eBay but the winning bidder - Following the Pay Now link from eBay paid paypal.

Explained the C.O.C and refunded the payment, Buyer fully understands and collects/pays cash, with me so far? :)

Now my Sold items shows the item as sold, with the £ sign lit - as item paid and the paypal refunded logo BUT the seller has tried to leave feedback but is going in circles being redirected to the Pay Now screen whilst I'm unable to alter the payment, either as unpaid or payment received on eBay.

The buyer has now has several automatic 'reminders' from ebay and is getting a little cheesed off - same as me!

How can I get around it? Thinking I might send a mutual cancellation to stop the messages then list it as a BIN - allowing the buyer and I to start afresh - If that makes sense?

Maddening that I'm having a problem over someone a paid for/collected item!

Tell them to select payment sent, I had to do this last night for an item i bought a few weeks back.
Cash on collection item. And it seems everytime i bid and pay it added this item to my paypal payment page.
Luckily i spotted it and unticked it. Clicked payment sent instead and no more trouble,

Happy_bunny it sounds like you ar every new to selling, and it might pay to read up a bit about it as you are getting muddled.

as forgtomyname says just mark it as payment received- simple. All the 'adding it as a BIn and cancelling sales' is a very odd way of dealing with a minor issue.

  • think there's a little confusion - Neither the buyer nor myself is able to alter any payment details - The buyer's screen shows as paid, as does mine however the eBay system is sending reminders.

Soolin, not new to selling nor am i 'getting muddled' as above I simply cannot alter the details, either for or against.

Ignore/delete the eBay reminders; they are for information only and as long as you don't initiate an NPB dispute - and you can't as the buyer paid through Paypal initially - then they will eventually stop pestering you.

Just get on with completing the sale. Just be careful with how you do this - not everyone likes being called a potential scammer (which is what you are doing when you explain about the scam to the buyer) and so if you are not happy taking the Paypal risk, sell elsewhere - there are plenty of other venues which deal with F2F sales better. Arguably, for the market you can reach with a pick-up item, eBay is a bit of a waste of money since you are paying for nationwide/worldwide advertising but not getting your money's worth.

We should raise a petition for better standards to protect the seller on ebay!

    Want a list?

No matter what the situation ebay will find in a buyers favour 99.999999999% of the time whereas a seller, who pays ebay, has a problem they get minimal if any help at all. :(

In most of those situations consumer law would also find for the buyer too, and there is no reason why eBay should not tighten up the areas (such as non-receipt of items sold by private sellers) where the law fails to protect buyers adequately. Selling is a minefield of responsibilities - you have to work to the convenience of the person paying you, otherwise they simply won't. If you get into that mindset 99.999999% of the time you will simply end up offending exactly the people you need to keep you ticking over - including eBay.

The PPOC is one instance where eBay have got the balance wrong but if they want to enforce Paypal as a compulsory payment method for postal sales they can't let sellers put collection as an option to get round having to accept PP.

eBay is not the most suitable venue for everything, so perhaps you have to work with them rather than against them and sell collection items on venues which are appropriate rather than chancing eBay.
