Very bad experience after installed AVG anti-virus free 30 days version.
1. It set my default search tool to its own one without notice, took me some time to change it back.
2. after 30 days expired, i lost my internet access (ping works in cmd mode, but browser didn't). To be honest, I was not sure if AVG should be blamed. But after uninstalling it, I could give them feedback on the Internet while I couldn't get access to other website such as google, bbc.
3. my friend installed it's free version 3 years ago, pop up windows kept coming up like virus.
4. it looks like virus to me.
(Quoted for reference.)
Are you really a web designer as per your sig.? Did you not notice the tick boxes before you clicked on 'OK'/'next'?0 -
If you download it from a dodgy site then they could have sneaked something unwanted in too. Some dodgy site can look very reputable to the untrained eye.0

If you're a web designer and couldn't uncheck the options to not set the search options and that you think it looks like a virus... You should probably choose a non computer based career.
It's easy to install, looks nothing like a virus and frankly if it takes you 'some tine' to find how to change a default search provider I'd be worried.0 -
Not sure how my experience related to my website abilities. I didn't read the post because I don't use AVG anymore. I never noticed the check box for default search and notification. Even so, AVG doesn't provide simple option to disable them.
1. If you google "how to remove avg search bar", you would find it is not a easy and straightforward task.
2. Try to google "AVG popup windows", even you are good at MS windows, the chance you success would be 50/50, anyway, after following the steps, i failed to disabled it.
3. I am the sort of web designer, learning all the time.
4. I should call it Malware instead of virusI am web designer and love coding, ok sort of.0 -
You just need to go to control panel
Click install/uninstall programs
Find "avg toolbar"
Click uninstall and away it goes.
Even a web designer can do that simple thing?just passing through.... Nothing to see....0 -
Why would you bump an old thread that makes you look completely incompetant?
fyi, used AVG for years, never had a single problem. maybe if you read the installation pages, you wouldn't have a problem either.0
