Do I have to give balls back?

It wasn't intended to be nice -There is nothing worse than bad neighbours -and we certainly don't "have to accept" the child is so big and strong and is constantly firing cannonball shots at the fence til it breaks. The OP has a grandchild -it'd be a pity if she escalated things to such a point her own GS couldn't play in her garden when he visits (and another good reason to have a decent fence-to keep him safe)
I'm certainly not the bad neighbour. Sometimes he kicks them so hard & high they go over my garden completely & into the garden of my other neighbour (there is a 7 foot hedge between us).0 -
Would it be better to put up a more sturdy fence than panels? Might be a wee bit more expensive but might be money saving in the long run. Especially if the kids are encouraged to kick it, they kick a solid fence, they will end up with sore feet.
We've just put a fence up round out drying green to keep next door's kids out, already gave up half my garden because I knew there were kids moving in, gave them the big side bit, I had the wee back bit of a shared garden, when we were doing it, we just spent maybe about £10-20 each week or when we could afford it to put up some decent fencing.
I personally don't like kids, but i like other people's kids who have no manners even less.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Well I feel for you MrsE.I'm fairly sure it's intentional, I've heard him cheering & jeering him on when it hits the fence.
Then share the footage with your local PCSO.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Nothing left to kick at, I had to remove the broken panels as they said the nails & screws could be a danger to their kids.
If he trims any of my hedging that goes over his side he throws it back over mine & it's only a tiny bit. I trim the hedging that belongs to my neighbour & their is nearly 150 foot of it (front & back), I wouldn't dream of throwing it over her side.
They did complain that some of his balls get damaged by the thorns on my hawthorn bush!!!! But I wouldn't entertain that one!!! The answer was simple, stop kicking the balls over then.....0 -

What sort of fence do you suggest?0 -

He can trim your bush but the trimmings are legally yours, so he should give them back to you. Of course, you could return the favour and trim his bush too...;)Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I don't mean to be rude but it sounds like you are being too nice. I've heard quite a few women say they tend to get taken advantage of, and when my later mother went to the police as a neighbour kept parking such as to prevent her getting her car out, the copper indicated that it would not happen to a man. It sounds like a lack of respect on their part. If they had destroyed two fences, I'd be calling the police. When I was a kid, a neighbour's child threw stones that broke windows. the police were called. I don't see the difference to be honest. None of my fences would withstand repeated impacts from a ball, and neither would the others near by. Why not plant a Pyrocantha hedge ... ?Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

We done it the old fashioned way, posts, rails and slats rather than panels. Check out your local timber merchants. It might be cheaper than you expect.
Ignore the double fence posts, that's our neighbour's fence, we just left them up, the small fence is doubled in this pic to give us a wee bit of privacy when sun bathing
