Car Insurance Question

So my OH has just passed his test and I have added him as an additional driver on my policy. My hypothetical question is, if he was to have an accident in my car, I know I would risk losing my NCB, but would I have to declare the accident to any new insurers as it was my name on the policy, even though it wasn't me in the accident?

Yes you would.
It would be a claim on your policy so you have to declare it.
OH would have to as well, of course. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Yes its your policy the claim would be under.
As well as losing all your no claims, The excess maybe higher also.
I wouldnt risk my no claims on a new driver. Statisitics say they are likely to have an accident. Which will leave you and them with horrendous quotes afterwards.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks for the responses. No claims wise, I'm only on my way to getting my 2nd year as I've always been an extra on someone else's insurance until recently, so losing it wouldn't be a massive impact, not that I'm expecting to anytime soon.0

Really? Even if it was your own child?0 -

I wouldn't risk my carefully and hard-earned NCD and claims history on my kids.
My comp. insurance is now under £300 pa and I want to keep it that way.:p
They can borrow my car if they have their own separate comprehensive insurance policy on it (or put the money aside to buy me another car)We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Actually, it is at this point it would have the biggest impact!
Using the traditional scale for NCD (not all insurers do these days) then if you were claim free this year then at renewal your premiums would be reduced by 50%. If you have a fault claim this year than next year you have increased premiums plus a 0% discount so it would more than double your premiums
In later years you would drop down from a 65% discount to a 50% discount for a fault accident and so the impact is massively less.0 -

No i would expect my own child to start their own and learn from the fact if they dont drive carefully they wont earn any no claims and will pay thousands every year for a long time.
Which is exactly what we are doing at the moment. My child has just applied for a test date.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
