Moving out - a few questions about utility suppliers

Hi folks, currently about to move out of my parents house and into a house ( rented ) with my girlfriend.
My questions are about the gas and electricity how would I know who the previous suppliers where and can I change them. I'm thinking would the landlord know this answer.

If the gas and electricity wasnt on a pre pay meter could I get one installed...

Apologies for these questions it's just it's my first time sorting utilities out and want the best cheapest option for me, because I know these utility companies can and will rip you off if they could..

Many thanks

Ste

If you want a PPM fitted, that should easy but it will be harder to get out later so check the differences in prices and don't lock yourself into a meter if the rates are less favourable.

Remember to take your opening readings on the day you move in. This is crucial.

If you are responsible for utilities in your tenancy agreement, you could ask the landlord but they may not have known a previous tenant switched. So, find out yourself.

Use this link to find your gas supplier.

Use this link and click in the map for info about your elec supplier.

Now use this one to find more on the distributor, Google them and you want their MPAS who will tell you.

they don't rip you off, you pay for what you use, you've just got to hunt around and find best deal for you.

Maybe not for you, being first time bill payer, but usually online direct debit set-up works out cheapest, though take regular readings and keep your eye on usage
