My girls primary school lock the gates but not the doors and i am glad. They arent even aware that they are locked in as they have access to the playground and playing fields. If there were an emergency then they would have access to line up in the playground. This suits me but then again i remember Dunblane,so much prefer this way.

My son's school doesn't even have a fence around it let alone a gate.

The door to the school is kept locked and you have to press a buzzer to gain entrance.

When he was in reception he decided one lunchtime to come home.

Luckily he was stopped by a dinner lady before he got too far but the head teacher told me that if a child runs off they are'nt really allowed to go after them because they would leave the other children without enough dinner ladys.

i've not heard of a child making a succesful escape bid from this school though i do think it sould have a fence at least.
