Recommendation to drag along a mate is a good idea ~ also woth asking 'mate' if he knows of a good local mechanic/garage. I don't know a fat lot about cars but use a local reliable chap (2 man band) who I really trust - they charge £35 per hour. Had them inspect virtually every second hand car I have bought ~ they don't actually charge me as they know they are going to get my future work/servicing but for £35 I get a better inspection than RAC/AA and it is £35 well spent IMO for a degree of comfort.0
