Mortgage - can my wife only apply

Hi,

I'm 30, my wife is 29

We are both in full time employment.

We've seen a house which, according to a number of mortgage calculators, we could afford on my wife's salary only.

This has always been our game plan for getting a mortgage, due to the field I work in, my job could be cut at anytime.

My question is, can we go for a mortgage and only apply for it in her name? We would both be on the deeds - is this doable does anyone know?

We live in Northern Ireland

Thanks

What benefit would there be in you not being on the mortgage?

Most lenders will insist that you are bothe named on the mortgage if on the deeds.

I am technically self-employed, and think that it could go against us in mortgage application?

Only my OH is on our mortgage, made sense for us. You may need to sign away your interest in the house for the mortgage company though

If you wife can afford the repayments in her own right then it shouldn't.

whether you are on the mortgage or not, yo will be classed as a dependent, which will likely reduce the amount they would lend.

When you say "technically self employed" what do you mean, you are either self employed or not?

Its a situation in work which means that I am essentially a staff member, but pay my own tax - so technically self-employed.

I think I'll speak with a mortgage advisor and see what they recommend, but the advice on here has been excellent.

    Thanks
