i switched my account from natwest to halifax. recieved all the letter from halifax and vanquish, payment for £10 was suppose to leave halifax bank to vanquish at end of july, but there's a 'payment reversal' on it, now i got a phone call plus a 'late payment charge' of £12. surely it cant be my fault, right? so is it halifax that either didnt set it up properly or refuse payment for whatever reason. or vanquish fault?
my other DD for capital one was fine, £5 left my account yesterday

Can you give us a bit more information?
Was the payment to Vanquish a DD or some other method?
You mention a 'payment reversal', which suggests to me that the money did leave your account but was then returned, are you able to confirm if that's what happened?0 -
yes its direct debit.
yes it was returned0 -
If you used an account transfer service from Natwest to Halifax, then it sounds like it's Halifax's fault for not correctly transferring the direct debit agreement.
That being said, Vanquish may be easier to reason with on not having to pay the £12, and you can just ask to manually set up a new direct debit agreement.
The only reason I could see it being your fault is if you didn't have sufficient funds in the account to make that payment.0 -
what would it do to my credit rating?0

Are you absolutely certain the payment was returned? To me a "payment reversal" is when the paying bank reverses the payment, i.e. sends the payment and then recalls it.0

what would it do to my credit rating?
A single one-month late payment marker in isolation does very little harm to your credit rating - as long as the account returns to normal status the following months.
Mistakes happen and anyone can occassionally & genuinely forget to make a payment to a card.0 -
If the fault is with a third party (eg your bank), then the CC is entitled to apply the late payment charge and report to the CCA. But it might give you a claim again t the bank to make good your loss.0
-
Did you make sure there was enough money in the account the payment was meant to come out of?
If not, it's your fault!0 -
what a mess, the capital one payment has been reversal too, was able(i hope) to make payment to avoid late payment charge0
-
If you only have £5 in your account you don't have the funds for the £10 payment?0
