Item returned

Hi,

I'm a new ebay seller and on only my second sale I've had it returned.

I sent it recorded delivery and the post office tried to deliver and when no one was home they left the card saying please collect.

As they didn't go and get it, I've had it returned.

So, my question is, "what do I do now?" If I resend I will be out of pocket as the profit on the sale doesn't cover the cost of posting twice.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Surely a parcel is kept for 3 weeks before being sent back?
I would contact the buyer and find out why they didn't collect it from the post office before you go any further. You could negotiate with them to pay the extra for further postage.

They did keep it the three weeks. I'd forgotten about the sale until the postie knocked on the door this morning.

When the buyer emails you to ask where it is just tell them whats happened. When they ask for it to be re-delivered just say I can but will need some more money for postage.

    Thanks,

Is this ok within the Ebay rules?

What if he says no and wants a refund - do I just refund minus the cost of postage (postage cost was more than the item)?

If he agrees to pay the extra postage - what are the mechanics of this i.e. how does he do it?

You don't have to pay twice to deliver it - if he wants it sent again, he needs to pay extra postage.

Failing that, refund minus the postage.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • You'd have thought they would have contacted you to find out where it is. I'd do nothing until they contact you (maybe they won't) - this happened to me once with some xmas decorations. Sat here waiting to be advertised next year!

Same thing happened to me with a DVD. I emailed the buyer but they never replied and never asked for the DVD to be re-sent. The DVD is still sitting here a year and a half later in its packaging! LOL!
