Do unmarked police have to show you ID?

For the record it did cost me £60, he said they 'no longer give verbal warnings for seatbelts, its just a fine' which is strange considering someone I work with mentioned only a few weeks ago that 'a smile' got her out of a seatbelt ticket because it was her first offence.
I find that hard to believe

Any dealings I've had with plain clothes over the years has always involved them producing their Warrant Card to identify themselves properly.0

Anyone else use the car? Have you recently acquired it? May have a marker on it!0

Did the uniformed officer issue the ticket? The reason I ask, which to be fair may vary from force to force, is that usually a Police Officer has to be in uniform to issue such a penalty. As I said, maybe it varies from force to force, or is different for Roads Policing units, as they often patrol in unmarked cars.
Dont know for sure as he disappeared back to the unmarked car behind me and sat in there with my driving license running a check or whatever he was doing. Eventually he come back and gave me my license and said he couldnt give a verbal warning and presented me with the fine. Could've been the WPC with him in uniform but she just sat there on the radio from what I could see, 99% sure he wrote it out.Anyone else use the car? Have you recently acquired it? Nope just me and had it since 2006! (time for new one, gonna sell it soon)0 -
No, we haven't all done it. Without in any way claiming to be a good driver, I can honestly say that putting my seat belt on is part of the starting up procedure as far as I am concerned.Welsh_Exile wrote: »Ah, you didn't say you got an FPN in your OP. Despite his unfortunate attitude, I doubt you'd have been stopped if you were wearing a seatbelt. We've all done it from time to time when setting off, unlucky the Old Bill saw you and it's cost you £60 - no points though.
This is not just because my Fiat Stilo insists on nagging me if I do not put on the belt seat belt. Many years ago I had a lucky escape from a shunt in a car in pre-seat belt days. I bought some seat belts and have always used them ever since.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Ok, we've all done it except for 27col. My car nags me too, and the front seat passenger so it's not often and never for more than a few yards but, hey, well done you!If I had a signature, this is where it would go.0

I almost never wear a seat belt, only slung over my shoulder. Like Crash Helmets, the decision to take safety precautions should be my choice, and not imposed on me by some bloody Nanny State bureaucrat.
Ive been caught twice in 20 years. Im entirely unconvinced the benefits of seat belts out weight the snags, such as getting a crushed chest and broken ribs from it, as well as being trapped in a car and burning to death cos u cant get out.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. And I, from my experience as a rally co-driver in my mis-spent youth, always wear a seat belt, and would fit a four point harness if I could. I've never been caught not wearing a seat belt in 37 years.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

It's all well and good saying it's only your safety at stake, but it isn't really. You'll be like a human missile if you have a bit enough shunt...LincolnshireYokel wrote: »I almost never wear a seat belt, only slung over my shoulder. TBH, if a "car" had come bombing up my backside flashing his main beam and a fella pointing pull over that not in accordance to the highwaycode for ref. then i would be inclined to leave my seatbelt off! because for all i would have known is some silly idiot is trying to stop me aggressively, leaving the seat belt off whilst under threat would be my excuse as the officer didnt highlight himself properly.
you can buy police LED lights and sirens from flea bay and stick them to anycar and they look real only untill you get close up you find out their imitation i.e not as many LED's as cops have.0
