ESA medical - trick questions?

My son has autism and has his ESA medical next week. If they were trick questions, you did not let them fool you. I would think they then had no choice but to use the proper questions.0

How do you spell your dog's name? B-E-N That would be a bit suspect I admit, but depends what context it was asked i guess.
When my daughter had her ESA assessment they asked if she had any pets. What they didn't put on the assessment was that I go down daily to feed and water her cat.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
ATOS: "Can you breathe?"
CLAIMANT: "No"
ATOS: "Claimant can answer questions and is fit for work"A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
my friend is in the support group ESA, was asked at the medical does she have any pets, yes, a cat Dave, and is it male or female
words fail me...
has second stage cancer ironically worked as a a cancer charity fund raiser manager the charity retired her after twelve months illness.
But she is not bitter as she will never go back to work anyway...
Then she was asked to spell Dave
but she passed her medical and is still in the support group
to be honest it made her laugh0 -
You are wrong and insulting to imply that autistic people are incapable of conversation. Some autistic people are mute, but not all. It is not normal conversation we struggle with. It is certain types of conversation - namely sarcasm, jokes, and small talk.
As I explained in my OP if you'd bothered to read it properly, the reason the dog question didn't make any sense was that the rest of the time the doctor made no small talk at all.
He raced through things as fast as he could and kept urging me onto the next question. When he arrived, he was in a great hurry to sit down and begin, and when he'd finished, he was in a great hurry to get up and leave.
Another person seems to have had a similar experience and been asked to spell D-A-V-E, so it seems I was right and it must have been some sort of weird test being asked to spell F-R-O-D-O.
Thank you for the (non-insulting) replies.
Well, that's my contribution you've misunderstood as well!0 -

There is nothing to misunderstand. Your words are written there in black and white for all to see. You cannot back out of them now by pretending they do not mean what they say.
If you wish to attack and insult disabled people, please go and do that somewhere else.0 -
I would disagree, there is small talk like "Oh I see you have a pet, what's there name?" and then just being a little odd like asking the client to spell their dogs name.
It may have all been a harmless chat, but your comment is quite insulting and I think you should apologise to the OP who is only asking for help not be insulted.
Such interventions are stressful enough without neurological concerns, I can understand why the OP was anxious over their questions.
What do you think would happen if someone disagreed with the content of the report and the name of their pet was documented incorrectly? Would this error be picked up on?
I have done reports (different assessments though) where my spelling of a name has been used against me to show I didn't understand. The fact I didn't insult them to ask for spelling was used to discredit.
I'd expect a historical synopsis to be present ie age xx lives with yy. If name or age are incorrect they will say they got things wrong. Ask for clarity and they are trying to trick them, devil and deep blue sea comes to mind.0 -

My name is frequently mispelled and I have no problem spelling it or correcting it if need be, but the OP was not asked a rational question that would come up in regular small talk. Whether the Atos guy was trying to trick them is a bit far fetched, but you can understand why they are wary and hopefully empathise that Autism makes you a lot more anxious about those little details.
I understand this post was a bit of a jumble, but hopefully you will get the idea.0 -
You are forgetting that the OP has Autism and therefore a different way of looking at things to you. The Atos person did not ask them the spelling of their name, but of their dogs which has no relevance to their claim and therefore quite rightly the got a bit anxious.

I do understand - and believe it or not the post was to help op. they could be worrying themselves for no reason, having the feeling you have been tricked is hard to cope with for anyone. Wondering why did I answer correctly will cause stress. People are saying it could be small talk and ensuring documentation and not to worry.
I suspect op is worrying hence why out of whole assessment they are the 2 points of concern - their concerns could be unfounded0
