TEAM GB What about NI?

As far as I am aware the rowers who won gold used to compete for Ireland in rowing, but due too the funding available for them if they competed in the Olympics for Team GB they would have better opportunities and could become full time athletes.
The reason Team GB has more medals than Team Ireland, is due to 2 factors
1) - It is a bigger country with a higher population and therefore should have better athletes
2) - They are willing to spend more money training people.
These factors mean that for a good athlete from Northern Ireland, they will most likely enter as Team GB, if they are sure they are good enough to make the GB team.
However, if tehy are not sure they are good enough to make the Olympic Team in GB, they are more likely to enter as part of Team Ireland, as there is less competition for places.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
100% correct lazer, couldn't have put it better myself. These factors mean that for a good athlete from Northern Ireland, they will most likely enter as Team GB, if they are sure they are good enough to make the GB team.

One other factor has been the lottery funding for GB&NI, which has allowed them to procure the best world-wide coaches and provide superior training facilities both at home and abroad.0 -
On the BBC only the athletic commentators consistently call the team by the correct name ie Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Its correct name is Team GB - here's the official website:

And here's the logo:

I suspect that one big reason that 'Team UK' was not chosen as the official name was to avoid causing friction in Scotland.0

Surely you don't doubt the integrity of the BBC?0 -

Better call the TeamGB website and tell them they have the team name wrong then.
Alternatively, get your facts straight. What you think they should be called is not what they are actually called.0 -
