I have quite a bad credit rating at the moment but i want to try and build it up. No one wants to give me a credit card - which i can totally understand. i was thinking though, if my boyfriend got a 2nd card on is account (i.e ME) would this boost my credit rating at all or boost it slightly? Also by having me as a 2nd card holder on his account, would this affect his credit rating in any way? He has a Virgin & Tesco card - which one would you recommend? Thx.

Not in the slightest.
He would be totally liable for any spending you made on the card.0 -
So do you think the 2nd card holder option is a good idea? Do you have any other suggestions i could try? Thx.

The second card option won't help your credit rating.
Why not go to the moneysupermarket.com credit card section and click on the advanced credit card search via experian? Put in your details and it should say your credit rating "needs improvement" or whatever the category is. It will suggest the really high APR credit cards.
Apply for one of them and be really careful that you always pay the balance off in full every month. So you never pay any interest.
After a while (I think it's a couple of years or so) if you have used your new card well then you should be able to get into the mainstream market.Indecision is the key to flexibility
