Ha ha! I just got a call from someone in Santander's Executive complaints team. After much back and forth, it transpires that the reason Santander could not manage to allocate my various payments to the account about to hit default was that everyone I spoke to, every single member of staff I spoke to, allocated the payment to an old and completed credit agreement with the balance already settled. So whenever I rang up and discussed the default they ignored the account in default and credited the wrong one despite it being terribly clear what I was doing.

Thats a hilarious level of incompetence. The woman on the phone refused to be drawn on the fact that clearly something had gone awry with her staff and/or systems of payment, instead she just claimed to be unable to work out what had gone wrong and that it was 'just one of those things'. Ah of course, it just happens that everyone I speak to is a moron.

She said she would get the default removed, should be off my statement by next month. I said that this is what her staff told me last month and that it should have been removed already and was treated to a long 'Ummmmmmm' and then silence.

...Of course, that is providing they don't just lose my money! :/

Yeah I know. All banks have their pros and cons. Maybe we should start a poll on the banking section as to which is the best bank. Rate them on customer service, fees/charges, interest, etc etc...

bosseyed - That's seriously laughably ridiculous! :rotfl: Hopefully this time it'll be sorted although I wouldn't hold my breath...!!!

The only one that hasn't yet done anything particularly bad to people I know is HSBC.

Is it just the business customers who get hit bad?

OH went into HSBC a few hours ago. No appointment. Got account set up for 16yo DD straight away, and also they've given him 2 options/rates ref mortgages.

...and Santander STILL haven't rang!!!!!!!!

Have you thought about doing it over the phone, OP?Ignore the branch completely?
It's not for everyone, especially if you like to see the figures in front of you, but works for me.

If we could get a non-0845 number it would help. I've searched saynoto0870 with no joy. We don't have a landline and ringing from a mobile will end up costing. Even the branch 'direct line' is 055xxx, which is apparently through internet, so again, not free to call from a mobile :(

If you have less than 6 months remaining on your current mortgage deal and your existing mortgage is with Santander or Alliance & Leicester you can contact us on 0800 092 3881

If your fixed rate period has come to an end, that counts as less than 6 months left on your current deal, so I'd say you can use that number there.

If you don't get 0800 calls in your mobile package then you could try 0116 201 1000.

First post - here is the transcript of my attempt to borrow some additional funding:

    Date 16th July
    · Spent 2 hours on phone running through mortgage application with representative – successfully completed.
    · Told that I would need to change outstanding mortgage over to 4.29% rate (from 4.24%) to allow the additional borrowing to go ahead (Previous phone call had discussed this)
    · Was notified that paperwork would be sent out asap with form for accountant to validate income (I am self-employed)
    Date 19th July
    · Paperwork arrived with request for payslips, ID but NO accountant form.
    Date 20th July
    · Completed paperwork posted back to Santander.

    Date 30th July
    · Rep. rang me to say that no accountant form had been sent to me. He apologised and promised to fax a copy through asap.
    Date 1st August
    · I called my accountant and they had not received the form.
    · I contacted Santander – a different representative guided me to a webpage where I could download the form and send it to my accountant. She told me that both sets of details could be entered on the form (in fact it also says this on the form). Accountant completed the form with both applicants details.

    Date 8th August
    · I rang Santander to chase response.
    · I was told that the application was looked at on the 7th August and that it was on hold because the accountant had sent both sets of details on one form.
    · The forms were faxed to the accountant (Accountant confirmed receipt)
    · Santander representative advised that it would take (another) 3-5 working days to process the response.

Is it worth it for £8K? – I’d be better off getting a cheap loan!

Through no fault of my own this application is being thwarted by incompetent people using poor-performance processes.

Crikey. Yip. Not good at all and really not worth it.

OH got to speak to both HSBC and Nationwide yesterday, both with really good mortgage deals. Finally got an appointment tomorrow with Santander after kicking up stink in the branch yesterday. Absolutely ridiculous!!!
