It is usual to give a week's notice for most employment of this type and it would have been reasonable for you to feel some responsibility for the elderly or disabled people you were letting down by going off in a huff. I know that you have rights but you have responsibilities as well. Having said that, I hope you get your money back.
Phil, I think that most uniforms are used again. Think of the cost to a company if they had to throw uniforms away every time people left!
I get what your saying but they have messed me about for the last 4 weeks, giving me hours then taking them away, THEY are the ones who should of checked if i had any more hours left for the week, even though i told them, it was 3 calls, they could of covered that very easy.
I know i was hasty in leaving like that but it's not my fault they cant organise a pi$$ up in a brewery, it took me 4 weeks and about 15 phonecalls to get them to sort me out coming back after the childcare business and in the last 4 weeks i have worked there i have earned a big fat £110, when i should of been earning that week.

Yes i do have responsibilities, my main responsibility is my son, house and bills, if i'm not working it mucks me up, they should of let me know they didnt have any hours for me so i could of looked for somewhere else, but now HB is fcuked up as well as CTB, its going to take me time to try and sort that out whilst my rent is now in arreers, and i'm going to be overpaid tax credits, THAT is my main responsibility.

Well i ahve secured myself a job with a well organised agency and i phoned my old job, they said as soon as i bring the stuff in they will phone head office and get them to pay me.

they cant report you to the POVA, i nearly laughed when i read that. thats a govening bodie of the actulal companys. and so on. ie the home. its certainly not for companys to ring and punish workers for not going in. they would be ruddy busy if it were though,

i cant blame you for leaving. alot of care homes fall well short of being well run... it was'nt council run was it?
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

it wasn't a care home, it's home care, i have worked for 2 agencys and a care home and they all are crap at organizing, the care home was horrible to work in.
Most care home managers are just simply in it for the money, i think home care is more strict as there is much more input from social services and occupational health.
The new company i have started at has the best reputaion in this area and are much more organizd and proffessional.
I think alot of that is because the owner is minted, was a top banker in london but had a stroke, his wife was a domicillary care worker and he had lots of carers whilst he was recovering, he said he had good care and bad care and wanted to provide some good care, he's not in it for the money as he doesnt need it.

I wonder if they want the uniform returned for some sort of security reasons, if someone is wearing a uniform they either look as if they belong or become invisible if that makes sense!

Yeah, it's alot easier regards childcare and i can get the hours i need all done in 2 nights in one place.
Basically the client needs help getting out of bed and on the commode during the night so i sit downstairs in the living room and go up when she rings the bell.
I'll finish at 7am then take aston to nursery for 8am and go home to sleep.

Good I am pleased it is what you want!! Plus, in the summer months night work will save you having to work in the heat of the day.
