Overseas buyer won item, now wants to cancel

Just wanting some advice before I do anything.

Buyer in Mauritius bid on item on 1st day listed - won it after it having gone from 99p to £4.70. They messaged me on day auction ended asking for postage cost - they should have already been aware as I had quoted in the listing for international postage. Item weighs approx 200g when wrapped and I advised £4.50 (200g small packet outside of Europe with RM is £4.42).

Buyer now says - 2 days later - that they want to cancel as postage too expensive. They just sent me a message to say this rather than an actual cancellation request.

I don't know if they thought they could try to get me to reduce the postage but surely they should have sorted this out before the auction ended.

I know if I raised a NPB and they ended up paying, they would just claim the item wasn't received. Is there anything else I can do?

Any suggestions for a strongly worded response would be welcomed too!!!!

You only have two choices, an NPB or risk a mutual.

Personally I would go for the full NPB, if they then go on to claim loss I would use the new 'report seller to eBay' function that comes in to effect soon.

as a side - you should have an option to reoffer the item to the person who bid the next highest amount

That's a second chance offer but that is only for when the original transaction has been cancelled by one means or another.

If you go straight to a SCO before sorting out the original sale first you end up with two winners and 2 lots of FVFs to pay and 2 buyers able to leave feedback.

I received a 2nd chance offer on an item that didnt reach its reserve.

Never had that before and quite shocked because of the reserve the actually price was well under half of their BIN price.

BIN £150, One bid of £50, I bid £100 to get it rolling, Reserve not met so it bids £51. No more bids. Auction ends.

I didnt even bother checking it. 4 days later i think i just happened to click messages and spotted the 2nd chance offer which expires the same day.

One bargain for me. I based my bid price on the fact its 100 miles away. Guessed 45mpg. But i actually managed over 55mpg.

I dont get that very often. Just bought another item this morning, Just checked to see if there were any messages and they have upped the price on the listing.
Wonder if they undercharged for postage & corrected that for future sales?

there is no point arguing with buyer who is scratching about postage. most of the time a descent buyer knows what they are bidding and hence no problem with the postage. i would give chance to second winner.

My earlier post still applies, what about the fees and what about the fact that original buyer might pay rather than risk an nPB strike?

Please sellers- you can't just SCO items because the original buyer is a pain, you have to deal with that transaction first.
