I manage properties and once had a hoarder / cat lady problem. Despite bringing a green team in. Changing floorboards, skirting etc. as soon as we put the heating on the smell came back.
Finally a contractor told me of some stuff called urine off which you spray near the source of the smell, the if there are still traces of wee it glows in the dark (weird but true).
We had glowing walls! They were then treated and skimmed and smell went. I have to say this was an extreme case, the tv programme life of grime wanted to feature itWell Behaved women seldom make history

In the past year or two we have lost both of our very elderly cats. I'm afraid that one, in particular, did tend to wee around the place. We changed the carpet and underlay (concrete floor)and that has totally eradicated any lingering smells.0
