Vista & Talk Talk Broadband

We have just bought a new PC which has come with Vista. Unfortunately, it isn't compatable with our Talk Talk speedtouch modem. I understand (after searching on google) that I can get a different modem from TT. Here come the questions:
1) Does anyone know if I have to pay for this new modem?

2) We were thinking about going wireless so we can still use the old PC (non-vista) and I'm also about to get a laptop with a new job. Would this affect which modem we'll need?

3) My hubby has also installed Win TV on the new PC, he has managed to get it going after downloading a fix but doesn't have any sound. Any ideas?

4) We both have Sony Ericsson mobiles and Vista won't accept the PC suite for those. Again, any ideas?

I'm not too technically minded but hubby is, so I shouild be able to pass all your suggestions on to him to translate!!

Thanks

You will have to buy a modem. but i would get an adsl wireless router with ethernet that will conect all your pc's wirelessly and the main one through ethernet. With ethernet you will not need to install the modem, just set it up. You will be able to conect any pc to your wireless network as long as they have a wireless adapter. Untill new software comes out for the mobile phone then you will have to use the xp pc

    3) The sound output from the WinTV module is usually on a socket at the back of the card, you'll need to plug the speakers into that or connect it to the line input of the PC sound card.
  • Thanks for all your replies. The Speedtouch modem we have is the 330 which is the one supplied by talktalk. Did you buy your 585 or was it supplied by talktalk?

AFAIK The Speedtouch 330 modem is not Vista ready, there is a Beta software issue 4.01 available from here, or you can ask Talk Talk to supply it.

Edit:- Talk Talk are now offering a SMARTAX MT882 mini router (2 wired outputs only: 1 USB+1 RJ45) to get around Vista compatibility issues by using the RJ45 Ethernet output (it has no Vista USB driver yet)
