How was this confirmation provided? In an email?
IMHO, any reasonable person would expect an offer to stand for a minimum period (e.g. 7 days would be my expectation). As such BT should honour this offer. If OP paid the increased termination charge and then took BT to court for the difference I think they'd stand a pretty good chance of winning.0
