Problems with NEXT online transaction!!!!

Hi there,
I want to ask where i stand with an issue i have with Next. Last week i went online to buy a dress from Next. I went through all the usual procedure of going to pay with my debit card which i use all the time online and never have any problems with. When it came to the payment going through it was unable to process it. Instead of stopping the transaction, Next automatically opened an "account" for me, with a limit of £600 stating i could pay once my statement had arrived. There was no way of me stopping this as it automatically got directed to this page. When i contacted Next about it and tried to pay over the phone they said it would not process again as probably the way i entered my address could have been slightly different and that this would have affected the transaction. I have NEVER had this problem before! I asked if this "account" would go on my credit file. They said yes. I am extremely disgruntled at this as i have been working hard to steer clear from credit applications in the past year and now this will go on my profile and i didn't even want it! I still haven't received my dress. I am told i will have to pay for it via gift card, bank or post office once my statement comes with my dress. I can't beleive that such a big company would be so sneaky. I won't buy from Next again. Can anyone give me some advice as to what my rights are?
Thanks in advance
Fiona

Hi, I have had exactly the same problem a few months ago. Here is a copy of the letter that I emailed to them and got a very quick telephone response from a lady called Helen (I think). They were able to remove the credit search from my credit file (and I checked - it did show for a few weeks though). I also forwarded the letter to the FSA who said that they can't help but gave me details of someone that could, sorry can't remember who it was.
    Hope this helps.:)

"Today I have been looking at your website to research some items that I intended to purchase for my son's bedroom. When I clicked through the checkout I checked the tick box to say that I did not wish to open a credit account. I went through to the next screen and then it told me my order had been placed and a credit account set up. I immediately phoned your customer services department who told me that a credit search would be done against my name and then removed. This was something I did not want. I asked if the credit facility was regulated by the FSA and was told that the advisor was unsure but would put me through to the credit department. I was put through to ******* (who works Sat & Sun 4.15-11.15pm) to be told that all the previous information I have been given was incorrect and to disregard anything I was told by the previous adviser. I have now been told that the order cannot be cancelled but that they can send a message to the courier to return the items when they are dispatched. ****** then went on to say that there is an occasional glitch on the website when the website automatically opens a credit account. This is something that is very wrong and I cannot understand how Next could let a glitch like this continue. I await your reply and confirmation in writing that there will be no credit search against my name and that the glitch will be fixed. I have copied this email to the FSA as it is wrong and probably illegal for you to open credit accounts without the authority of the customer."

Must be a big glitch as same happened to me a few weeks ago.Just wanted to pay for stepsons trousers and has opened an account.
I am fuming about it
Even more that all the items have been delivered to the wrong address even after I phoned after the first parcel was delivered wrong and told them not to send the others until it was sorted out with the courier.
I have got them all now after a zillion phone calls and have now phoned and paid on my card and getting them to cancel my account.

Oh but they did send a gift for my problems .......A next directory !!!
But have just checked my 'account' and have been charged twice for the replacement trousers that the courier couldn't get back .

I will never shop with them again ever !

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice
