M&S online ordering and stock levels

I ordered a cordless phone set from M&S a few weeks ago to be delivered "to store" and got confirmation. I went to the store the following week on the specified date with the email printout. The staff spent about 10 minutes in the backroom looking for it, then she checked on the computer and saw a note that the order had been cancelled and that someone would be calling or emailing me to let me know (which they obviously hadn't!). Wasn't too happy to spend my lunch hour faffing about for no reason but they did apologise and offered a credit to my online account to cover delivery charges on my next order.
A few days later, I saw the same phone back on the website and placed an order again, this time for home delivery (which was effectively free with the credit). Got the confirmation email and estimated delivery date. I kept an eye on the website and the phone was still showing on sale for at least 2 days after I placed my order. On the day it was supposed to be despatched, I got another cancellation email due to no stock.
So, nothing major but still irritating that their stock control is so crap.

I've had this problem time and time again with M&S.
It's very annoying and I've got no idea why it happens - I've always found the item to be in stock when I've had the cancellation email.0 -
Seems like a common problem, as I have had that happen too."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
