Expired Gift Cards Help (Next and WHSmith)

Today I Found two old Gift cards from Next and WHSmith. Both Stores told me they were out of date:

WHSmith gave me a phone number to ring and try and see if I can get the card reissued.

Next were very unhelpful, told me that it had just expired. I told them about how helpful WHSmith were (they looked a little worried) then I had to ask for a customer service number.:mad:

I have not rang or sent either company a letter yet (it is Sunday), I am not very sure of how best I should 'phrase' my viewpoint either. Can anyone give me any advice. What should I say to the person on the phone? Does anyone have any success in this?

I doubt anyone has had success as there has been no wrong doing by the firms involved. They issued a gift card it expired and was not used in time.

All you can do is politely as them if they will reissue it, but they are not obliged to.

I have returned my expired gift voucher to Next in January to the address written on the back of the voucher and kept a record of the serial number. Good job as i have just looked back in my diary and noticed that i havent received anything back,

Ive called today and was told by the girl on customer services that as i dont have a next account that they cant do anything. They asked if i have proof of purchase (from 8 years ago.....no definitely not) and have said they cant trace serial numbers. What a load of rubbish!!!!

I have now kicked up a fuss and apparently someone from head office will call me tomorrow.

Since there has been no wrong-doing by Next I'm not sure why you are so demanding?
All you can do is politely ask them if they will reissue the expired gift voucher, but they are not obliged to.
