How many credit cards can you have?

Hi
I have recently done a balance tranfer to Barclaycard however it wasn't enough to cover the entire balance. I applied for a Natwest card several months ago to do some house improvements.
My question is if I apply for another balance transfer is there a chance this may be declined.
I have a good salary and a mortgage.
Dont want to apply if there is a chance it will be declined.
