Im having a bill meter installed for both the gas and electricity supply at my flat.

In regards to direct debits, will the bills be accurate if I submit regular meter readings?

The more, the merrier. Regular accurate readings stop them estimating your bills. Seasonal patterns will show up more accurately too, so you'll have better chance at challenging an increased direct debit if your bill arrives in the spring.

It's known as a credit meter. Yes, you should submit readings at least every 3 months.

With most suppliers your account balance will be accurate, however direct debit accuracy is something else. Edf are not the only culprits but the Edf direct debit thread will give you a feel for the issues.

Forward forecasting is based on firm data so the more they have, the more accurate any estimates whether supplier or agent driven (e.g. in switching). Since such forecasting takes into account the change in seasons, having seasonal readings helps keep this more accurate.
