BT landline required for B'band

Options
Probably a silly question but will ask anyway. I have a BT land line and am thinking about moving line rental to Post Office. Will my Broadband still be ok ?

I only want the line rental, not any calls as its cheaper than BT.

Depends on your supplier ,some still insist you must have an actual BT landline.

Apart from the cheaper calls its not a good idea to move your line rental from BT.Some people have been faced with large repair bills when moving line rental. Heres an example: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=281953

Oh dear, never heard of that before, makes you think. Perhaps need to investigate the PO policy on things and check with my BB provider.
Thanks for making me aware of this.

Although you will pay your line rental to the PO, as far as I am aware the line is still owned by BT and the Post Office just rent it from them. If you get any problems the PO will contact BT to repair your line, so you are going through a third party rather than dealing with BT yourself and as has been pointed out in the link provided by utilitybroker you may get charged for something that would be free with BT.

Also as you are no longer a BT customer, BT will not put any priority in repairing the line, usually it is there own customers first then the others when they can get round to it.

So although the line rental may be a bit cheaper is it really worth the has hastle and you could end up paying a lot more if ever you have a fault on your line.
